TIME + TIDE KAKULI
Perched high above the Luangwa River, Time + Tide Kakuli offers impressive vistas of the river’s many visitors below. Designed to celebrate the panoramic setting, the rooms have a long, low profile and a bright, airy feel. Freshly redesigned in 2018, the rooms offer comfort in all seasons by incorporating features such as a covered open-air lounge and indoor and outdoor showers. Right from your room, you can listen to the bellowing hippos, see bee-eaters perform their aerial acrobatics and watch elephants and giraffes wandering down to the river.
The elevated main chitenge and deck overlook the river and a permanent waterhole. Beneath the lounge is a wildlife hide that offers up-close views of the wildlife stopping by for a drink. Don’t be surprised if brunch is interrupted by a giraffe arriving to feed on the nearby trees!
In the dry season, the camp is a fantastic base for exploring by vehicle and foot. The area is renowned for some of the best game viewing opportunities in Zambia, with abundant leopards, a resident lion pride and a seasonal colony of the immensely beautiful carmine bee-eaters.
During our Secret Season (20 January to 4 April), Time + Tide Kakuli welcomes guests to experience the magic of the South Luangwa in its full, lush glory with our Rivers + Rainbows itinerary. Against a verdant backdrop and dramatic skies, explore by foot and boat, and enjoy some of the best opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography.

Venturing to the remotest parts of the continent, Time + Tide’s family of safari properties spans Zambia and Madagascar. We offer a modern-day explorer the luxury of time and space and the chance to feel fully alive.
Original founders, Norman Carr and the Liebenberg family, are credited as leaders in responsible tourism. We have over 80 years of combined experience in the space. With the opening of Time + Tide Miavana, we honour these legacies by bringing the same ethos to Madagascar.
Across land and sea, our people take extraordinary care in sharing our deep appreciation for the land, wildlife and culture. We’ve pioneered a more grounded tourism experience, rooted in conservation and synonymous with Africa’s history of ecotourism and preservation. Stop. Look closer. Touch the Earth.
