TIME + TIDE CHONGWE RIVER CAMP
Take in some of the Lower Zambezi’s finest views, looking out across the meeting point of two powerful rivers. Time + Tide Chongwe Camp sits where the Chongwe River winds through a forested valley before joining the Zambezi, a setting that naturally draws wildlife and delivers memorable sightings.
Recently refurbished, the camp is made up of eight classic safari tents set along the river’s edge. Each one is positioned for sweeping views over the Chongwe, with a spacious open air bathroom, a shaded porch with comfortable lounge chairs, and thoughtful details including local textiles and handcrafted furniture. It is an easy place to settle in, with the river always in sight and the valley’s calm all around you.
Days flow through the relaxed main lounge, where our team serves satisfying meals, your favourite drinks, and warm hospitality that feels personal from the start. When you are ready for quiet watching, the wildlife hide offers a rewarding vantage point for photography and, after dark, the chance of spotting more elusive nocturnal visitors.
Lower Zambezi National Park remains wonderfully uncrowded, with only a small number of camps spread along the river. That sense of space is matched by variety on safari. Head out on game drives and walking safaris, then take to the water for boat cruises and canoeing safaris that bring you close to the river’s edge. For something different, try your hand at tiger fishing and feel the pull of the Zambezi in a completely new way.

Time + Tide are pioneers of luxury safari and island experiences with a long standing commitment to responsible tourism, offering the rare luxury of space and time to step back from the constant pace of everyday life to simply be present.
Our collection spans land and sea in pristine locations, shaped by exceptional teams who share these destinations with care, respect and a deep understanding of place. As a family owned business, our culture is the foundation of our brand. Everything we do is guided by four pillars: community, conservation, sustainability and local economies, ensuring our work supports both people and wilderness for the long term.
Our story brings together decades of passion across Zambia and Madagascar. In the 1950s, Norman Carr pioneered walking safaris in Zambia’s South Luangwa Valley. In the 1990s, the Liebenberg family chose to showcase the Chongwe River in the Lower Zambezi Valley. Later, the Peyre and wider Dalais family set out to protect and share northern Madagascar’s extraordinary archipelago through sustainable ecotourism, with Miavana at its heart and, more recently, Tsara Komba in the Nosy Be archipelago.
Time + Tide was built on a dream of safeguarding rare places through thoughtful travel. Each location we work in needs biodiversity protection and stronger, alternative economies that value natural heritage.
We focus on immersive experiences that connect guests to the landscapes and communities around them, while working alongside local partners, NGOs, authorities and conservation organisations to support lasting protection. Still pioneering, still exploring, our story continues.
