Project Description

CHIKOKO TRAILS CAMPS
Chikoko Trails provides safari goers with an exclusive walking experience. It is comprised of two small camps Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile River Camp, both situated inside the South Luangwa National Park and accommodating a maximum of six guests each.
Walkers follow naturally formed hippo trails and explore the area that David Livingstone ventured through back in the late 1800’s. An expert and experienced guide, armed scout and tea bearer accompany walks, offering great insight into the area and wildlife. Traversing the bush on foot allows one to engage with the Luangwa on an intimate level – one can stride beside a Thornicroft’s giraffe, examine the intricacy of a fallen weaver nest, identify the print of a leopard who padded down your trail just hours before, feel the weight of a sausage fruit and so much more.
Chikoko Tree Camp consists of three chalets elevated amongst the tree canopies by stilts. Sheltered by the ebony and sausage trees, the chalets offer a commanding view of the scenic area and surrounding wildlife.
Crocodile River Camp is sheltered beneath a grove of ebony trees which hug the Crocodile River. With 3 round chalets looking out onto the dried Crocodile River course, one can quietly observe zebra, impala, elephants and warthog which feed in front of camp. The camp waterhole regularly attracts leopard.
Both camps enjoy en-suite facilities with a flushing toilet, running tap water and hot showers. All infrastructure is locally handcrafted out of natural materials which allow for a rustic and truly bush experience. The excellent cuisine, comfortable chalets and authentic setting contribute to a great walking experience.
