A leopardess named Kuvina has been spotted with not one but two cubs by guides at Sungani in one of the most remote areas of South Luangwa National Park. Kuvina has been photographed since 2023 and recently surprised staff when they spotted a tiny cub with her in the undergrowth. It is since been confirmed that she has two cubs, a strong affirmation of Sungani’s commitment to bringing game back to an area that was once heavily encroached upon. Kuvina’s babies are a testament to the fact that rewilding strategies and conservation efforts do work.

As the area around Sungani and sister lodge Kulandila continues to bounce back, so other big cats are also being spotted regularly including a different female and a male leopard. Three young male lions are also trying to make incursions but are being held back by the strong Zungalia pride. Meanwhile, lioness Sarabi is bringing up her two cubs to be confident, curious subadults.
