NORTH LUANGWA SKYBEDS
North Luangwa Skybeds provides a truly unique sleep-out safari experience, designed for adventurous travellers seeking a up-close experience with the African wilderness. The accommodation consists of elevated open-air chalets, set on platforms overlooking a permanent water source that attracts a wide variety of wildlife.
Each chalet features a large, comfortable bed mounted beneath a simple thatched roof, offering protection from the elements while remaining open on all sides. The design allows uninterrupted views of the night sky and surrounding bush, immersing guests fully in the sights and sounds of North Luangwa National Park. At night, wildlife can often be heard — and sometimes seen — moving through the area below.
Meals are typically enjoyed around a campfire, with simple, hearty dishes prepared in keeping with the remote setting. The atmosphere is intimate and informal, emphasising storytelling, stargazing, and the raw beauty of the bush rather than traditional lodge comforts.
North Luangwa Skybeds is not conventional accommodation, but rather a carefully curated wilderness encounter, ideal for serious safari-goers, photographers, and travellers looking for something extraordinary and deeply memorable.

The North Luangwa Skybeds are located on the former site of North Luangwa River Lodge, a safari camp that played an important role in opening up tourism in this remote part of Zambia.
The site, now forming part of the Everwild portfolio, was thoughtfully reimagined and upgraded. Drawing inspiration from traditional guide sleep-outs, the Skybeds concept was created to offer a low-impact, immersive wilderness experience while preserving the area’s sense of isolation and wild character.
This transformation allowed the site to continue contributing to conservation-focused tourism in North Luangwa National Park, supporting protection efforts in one of the country’s least-visited parks. Today, North Luangwa Skybeds offer a rare opportunity to experience the landscape in its most elemental form, maintaining a strong connection to the area’s safari heritage while embracing a more adventurous style of accommodation.
