MUNYAMADZI GAME RESERVE

We have four en-suite chalets, each slightly different and overlooking the Luangwa River and Bulonga Hills. The three classic safari rondavels offer a simple design with thatch rood and furniture made on site. The fourth chalet is what we call the “honeymoon suite” – a raised wooden deck platform with canvas panelling, thatch roof, private veranda and king size bed. All chalets have their own “donkey boiler” for running hot water.

The open dining area has a bar, large mahogany dining table and lounge furniture allowing you to relax in the shade on the edge of the Luangwa River. Evenings are spent around the fireplace where guests enjoy unparalleled sunset viewing. Meals are made in our open-air wood fire kitchen or the pizza oven by the fireplace. Self-catering and full board options available.

Activities include game drives, walking safaris, birding and fishing. Excursions to the nearby communities can be arranged upon request.

We are a 6-hour drive, or ~ 1-hour charter flight, from Lusaka. You can self-drive or arrange for us to pick you up in Lusaka.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Munyamadzi Game Reserve is an 18,500 ha unfenced private wilderness reserve, affording our guests exclusive use of the entire area including our own airstrip a few minutes from camp. We are bordered by two other unfenced reserves, the West Petauke GMA and community forest. With 20 km of Luangwa River-front, diverse habitat and terrain, and a plethora of animal and bird species, guests can expect a fantastic experience with our knowledgeable staff at your disposal.

The Reserve was taken over by current management in 2008 when wildlife populations were dangerously low due to poaching. Since then, our management strategy and business model has allowed us to invest in natural resource protection, wildlife monitoring and community outreach; these, combined with tourism, are the pillars of sustainable conservation. The wildlife has rebounded incredibly and we have a monitoring programme to inform our policies. We employ all our staff from nearby villages and make a point of incorporating reformed poachers into our anti-poaching team.
