Get up close and personal with the African bush with this seven-day South Luangwa Mobile Walking Safari which includes a three-day walking safari, offering you exclusive access into the more remote and private areas of South Luangwa, while sleeping in full comfort!

With an experienced guide, you will begin with a walking safari from Tafika Camp to Crocodile River Camp along ancient animal foot paths. Enjoy nature’s beauty from interesting tiny insects to large mammals on either a shorter walk or a lengthened walk. Walking distances are not extreme and only require a moderate level of fitness. The safari gets you using all your senses in the phenomenal experience of seeing wild animals on foot.

  Day 1 – 2: Mfuwe Lodge, South Luangwa National Park

Your safari will begin at Lusaka International Airport where you’ll fly to the Mfuwe Airstrip located just outside Luangwa National Park. Upon arrival at Mfuwe Airstrip you will be collected and transferred to Mfuwe Lodge – famously known as the lodge where elephants walk through. This is because it was built on an ancient elephant trail which the elephants still follow to get to the fruit from the wild mango trees. This is a great destination to ease yourself into your safari and enjoy some of the prolific game located around the area.

  Day 2 – 3: Tafika Camp, South Luangwa National Park

After your morning game drive and breakfast, you will be transferred to Tafika Camp. Tafika camp will be used as your base camp for the start and end of your walking safari. This camp is located under the canopy of some leadwood trees in the Nsefu area and is renowned as one of the best locations for leopard viewing. You will also get to enjoy an evening game drive in search of these majestic predators.

  Day 3 – 5: Crocodile River Camp, South Luangwa National Park

Under the guidance of an experienced guide you will begin with a walking safari from Tafika Camp to Crocodile River Camp along ancient animal foot paths. Enjoy nature’s beauty from interesting tiny insects to large mammals on either a shorter walk or a lengthened walk. You will base your selves for the next two nights at Crocodile River Camp. The camp is located underneath a canopy of ebony trees and is made predominantly from local materials, resulting in a comfortable and rustic experience.

Spend your time enjoying nature and its natural surroundings on foot with morning and afternoon walks in the surrounding area.

  Day 5 – 6: Chikoko Tree Camp, South Luangwa National Park

On Day five you will depart for Chikoko Tree Camp on foot, this will be you’re lodging for the next two nights. This unique camp is built above-the-ground, set within the surrounding tree canopies. The camp is also built with a mix of natural and local building materials allowing you to blend in and camouflage yourself with the natural surroundings.

From your camouflaged tree-camp you will be able to enjoy the local wildlife that frequently visits the area as well as morning and afternoon walks through this wild section of the National Park.

  Day 7 – 8: Tafika Camp, South Luangwa National Park

Enjoy the morning with a final walk around the area or begin walking back to Tafika Camp. The distance to Tafika is approximately an eight-kilometre walk down steam. Once back at base camp you can enjoy a final evening drive around the Nsefu area in search of a more elusive leopards. Enjoy the fine-dining and services offered at Tafika camp followed by some great banter around the camp fire.

  Day 8: Departure

This is the last morning of your stay in South Luangwa National Park, and after one last early morning game drive and a sumptuous breakfast you will be taken to the airport for your onward travel arrangements.

  Mfuwe Lodge

A unique lodge situated in the South Luangwa National Park with 18 luxury en-suite thatched chalets, each with a private decking area that overlooks a lagoon that attracts abundant wildlife. Overlooking a beautiful oxbow lagoon in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, our lodge offers guests a special glimpse of Africa as she was – untouched, unspoilt and unforgettable.

The lodge also boasts a Bush Spa where a range of relaxing and healing African therapies are provided. Mfuwe Lodge is open all year and all age groups are welcome!

  Tafika Camp

Tafika Camp is situated in the northern part of the Nsefu Sector of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia; the base camp for Remote Africa Safaris. Tafika provides amazing views of the river offering a wonderful place to relax when not enjoying walking safaris, cycling trails, micro-lighting, or sunrise or sunset game drives.

  Chikoko Tree Camp & Crocodile River Camp

Chikoko Trails incorporates two small and exclusive bush camps; Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile River Camp. From here, walking safaris are offered with the full support of an experienced walking guide, armed National Parks scout, chef, camp staff and porters.

Located on the banks of the Crocodile River, both camps provide comfortable accommodation for six guests in simple, grass-walled chalets with en suite flush toilets and showers.

It is advised that guests take out the necessary travel insurance to cover any costs of lost baggage, flight cancellations or curtailment. Navigate Africa Safaris cannot be held responsible for any costs incurred by airlines.

It is compulsory for guests to have comprehensive medical insurance to cover them for any medical costs that may result in injuries or illnesses.

All guests travelling with Navigate Africa Safaris are covered for emergency evacuation. Should there be a situation where you are ill or injured and the conditions are life threatening – we will arrange an emergency evacuation for you.
