Founded in 1996 as Zambia’s most luxurious tented safari camp, located within the very heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park (LZNP), Sausage Tree and Potato Bush have redefined the safari experience and become the benchmark for any Zambian Safari.

Sausage Tree camp, named after the ‘sausage-shaped’ fruit in the giant Sausage Trees was voted Best Location in Africa at the 2016 Good Safari Guide awards and was rated No 1 by the BBC’s holiday program’s 10 Best Luxury Resort of the World. These accolades are a credit to the owner-operated camp and in particular to the vision and the reputation of the Managing Director, Jason Mott.

Sausage Tree Camp

Awarded Best Location in Africa, and celebrating her 20th Anniversary in 2016, Sausage Tree Camp is set in a prime location in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park.

This exclusive camp accommodating 16 guests in 8 spacious Bedouin-style tents, offers private guiding with a range of game viewing activities including game drives (day and night), walking safaris, canoeing, boating and fishing.

Five signature tents which are spacious islands of cool minimalist style include solid Zambian teak furniture, a unique open-air en-suite bathroom and the renowned luxurious ‘loo with a view’. Two honeymoon suites consist of an indoor and outdoor bathroom, large teak deck with private plunge pool, mini bar with leather sofas and a view to marry for. The Kigelia House, consists of two bedrooms (both ensuite bathrooms), a large living area, huge timber deck with built in swimming pool, plus a mini bar and dining table. Each tent is serviced by its own Muchinda (private butler).

The newly built open plan dining, bar and lounge area sits on the edge of the Zambezi River next to the 25m infinity swimming pool which is the perfect location to watch the sun go down.

Potato Bush Camp

Located alongside renowned sister camp, Sausage Tree Camp, Potato Bush Camp enjoys spectacular views across the Zambezi River.

Built around raised timber board-walks this child-friendly camp accommodates 10 guests in 4 spacious safari-style tents and offers a range of game viewing activities including game drives (day and night), walking safaris, canoeing, boating and fishing.

Three safari tents are positioned discreetly along the river with sweeping panoramic views, also extremely spacious with ensuite bathrooms complete with twin showers, twin basins and full-size four-claw bathtub. Large Rosewood folding doors lead onto a balcony which hosts a 2-person hammock and a private plunge pool.. The family tent not only has two bedrooms but it offers a huge living area, fully stocked bar and fridge, private dining table and a larger plunge pool than the rest. This tent is perfect for either families or a group of 4 adults. All tents are serviced by its own muchinda (private butler).

Potato Bush set high standards in the new era for small exclusive luxury tented safari Camps. It has a very contemporary architectural design perfectly balancing with the raw integrity and natural beauty of solid Zambian Rosewood and dramatically compliments the use of traditional canvas. The open plan dining, bar and lounge area looks onto the fire pit positioned on the river edge and is the only part of the camp you actually “touch the ground”.
