Accommodation in Bangweulu
Situated on the north-western edge of the Great Bangweulu Basin lies one of the world’s greatest wetland systems. Comprising out of three main habitats – the Bangweulu Lake, the Bangweulu Swamps and the Bangweulu floodplains – which together host an impressive 15 000 square kilometres. Originating from one of Zambia’s local languages, the name Bangweulu means “where the water meets the sky.”
The seasonally flooded grass plains bolster a vast variety of aquatic birdlife, including the well sought-after shoebill stork. Also, home to an estimated 75 000 black lechwe, the region’s Chimbwe Floodplains become the focal point when tens and thousands of these endemic antelope gather to form one of Africa’s most impressive wildlife congregations.
If the natural tranquillity and peace of Mother Nature is not enough to satisfy your needs, head on out for an exciting safari and grab the opportunity to spot the rare shoebill or become more enriched with a cultural visit to one of the villages that surrounds the area.
With great opportunities and rare experiences, choose from a variety of accommodation options that would suite yours needs and top off your authentic African experience. Have your pick between luxury lodges, comfortable chalets and homey bed and breakfasts.
