Waterberry Zambezi Lodge
Waterberry is a beautiful little lodge on the banks of the Zambezi opposite the Victoria Falls National Park. It’s a perfect place to recover from long international flights or early morning and late night safari activities.
It’s as famous for its excellent food and friendly, enthusiastic staff as it is for its luxurious gardens and excellent river landscape.
The thatched rooms are set around the lawns or on the riverbank. All rooms are en suite with air conditioning, mosquito nets and fans and little terraces for resting, enjoying a quiet drink or private dinner.
Only half an hour’s drive from Livingstone International Airport, or two hours from Victoria Falls International Airport, the lodge is in perfect peace and quiet – with only the sound of frogs, lion and hyena to disturb the night, and birdsong during the day.
Guests eat, drink and swap stories in the restaurant, viewing lounge and sun deck overlooking the river. The swimming pool is big enough for refreshing exercise, or just sitting beside with a good book and a beer. Sunset cruises are popular – imagine, just 24 hours from home, floating down the Zambezi, cool drink in hand, looking for elephant, hippo and crocodile on the riverbank and watching your first African sunset. Amazing.
Waterberry is just 40 minutes from Victoria Falls, the world famous destination that draws people to Zambia – either at the start or finish of their Zambian safari adventure, or as a short break to visit the world-famous waterfall. Livingstone is the home of adventure – whether it’s simply walking the Falls and getting drenched in the spray from the millions of litres of water pouring over the Falls, getting soaked to the skin in the world’s most famous white water rapids or flying over the awesome sight in a helicopter or microlight.
Waterberry is a privately owned, independent lodge set in 1km of riverbank and 800 acres of bush, much of which is fenced off to create a Conservation Area and which is being gradually populated with additional game. The birding is famous.
The present owners have run the lodge since 2006, and are passionate about service and making sure guests experience all they can around Victoria Falls while on the holiday of a lifetime.
The Zambian staff are mostly recruited from the local villages, and have themselves introduced a village walk to show tourists how rural Zambians go about their daily life. This village visit is the highlight of many guests holiday.
Waterberry Tukongote Community Projects runs three preschools and a primary school in the local villages, ensuring children who previously had no school receive a good start in education. Guest contributions constantly help the schools thrive and grow. Tukongote Community Projects has just been awarded NGO status in Zambia.
Waterberry is proud to be No 1 Speciality Lodge in Livingstone on Trip Advisor.
