Spend four nights at Royal Zambezi Lodge, on the banks of the Lower Zambezi in the Chiawa Game Management area – right next to the Lower Zambezi National Park. Enjoy three full days fishing for the elusive tigerfish, as well as so many other species. The Royal Zambezi Lodge is fully equipped and ready for all types of fishermen, with perfectly suited fishing boats for spin-, fly- or conventional anglers. Each outing is accompanied by well-trained guides who will take you into the national park to some of the most productive areas of the river.

Here you will find the most sort after sport fish in the river – the tigerfish. Average sizes here range between four and twelve pounds, however some big 20-pound tigers are known to lurk around these waters. All fishing is catch-and-release, and special care must be taken to handle these apex predators.

Another special fish in the river is the vundu – catfish which grow up to 80 pounds! Other species of fish include chessa, nkupe, cornish jack, bottlenose, niloticus tilapia and even more.

This tour also combines fishing with African wildlife because of its proximity to the national park. You can get up close to the animals on the river by boat or canoe, or take a game drive into the park and surrounding game management areas. This exciting park is home to large quantity of leopard who are frequently seen on the river’s edge, and also includes lion, large herds of elephant and buffalo, hippo, kudu, sable, reedbuck, waterbuck, impala, warthog and a plethora of other species.

This trip is suited to the serious fisherman, beginner, or even those that are keen to learn.

Day 1 – 5: Royal Zambezi Lodge, Lower Zambezi

From Lusaka International Airport, you will be catching a Proflight charter to the Royal Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi where you will be collected and transferred to the Royal Zambezi Lodge.

After you’ve checked into your room, you will be able to fish, relax or explore at your own leisure.

Each day you will journey out for a sunrise fishing session, and then head back to camp for brunch or lunch. After that, you can rest and prepare your tackle for the afternoon and evening’s fishing.

While fishing, you can also enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Zambezi escarpment, with the beautiful bush and riparian forests alongside the rivers edge. Fish eagles, vultures, bateleurs and many other raptors are commonly seen circling in the skies above, while kingfishers sit on the river banks in wait.

Day 5: Departure

Wake up early, grab a cup of coffee and get one last cast in before breakfast to soak in your surroundings before you begin your return journey. After breakfast you will head to the Royal Airstrip for your scheduled charter back to Lusaka International Airport and your further travel arrangements.
