Mukambi Plains Camp
Mukambi Plains Camp is a bush camp in essence and it consists of luxury safari tents i.e. tented chalets. Each of the 4 tents can sleep 2 persons (two double rooms and 2 twin rooms). The camp is located in the middle of the Busanga plains and from your tent you have a perfect view on the plains and the marsh. The camp features four luxurious tents nestled amongst the trees on one of many islands, providing ideal privacy. The dining area and extended walkway offer a majestic view of the remarkable “Two Fig” on the bordering island, while a campfire extends warmth in the chilled nights after supper and fresh mornings to watch the sunrise as the herds of lechwe graze. Enjoy a warm atmosphere in the dining area during meal times, with food and service fit for kings.
All four tents in camp do not have electricity and lanterns are used to illuminate the tents and walkways. Power is available at the boma all day with multiple sockets and guests can recharge their cameras and other light equipment from there. For a truly wild and outdoor experience, each tent comes with its own bucket shower which staff fill up daily with warm water for a nice relaxing shower. As Mukambi Plains Camp offers quite a unique encounter with nature, facilities such as wifi are not available to guests and this allows for one to truly be at one with nature.
Mukmabi Plains Camps runs fully off solar power and has a small genrator for backup. The Camp was designed to be entirely eco friendly wih minimal impact on the surrounding environment. Proper wastage and garbage disposal techiniques have been put in place to ensure no harm comes to flora and fauna around the camp.
Mukambi Plains camp has been in operation since the late 90s. The camp is a personal and intimate camp, set on a small palm tree island in the middle of the vast Busanga Plains. This is the most northerly and remote bush camp in the Kafue and is open from mid July until the 1st week in November due to annual flooding. The camp is the sister camp to Mukambi Safari Lodge. Guests often visit the main lodge first (safari package), before heading off to the plains, either by road transfer or by plane. This gives our guests the opportunity to break down the journey and also see other parts of Kafue National park.
The Camp is an exhilarating 6 hour drive from Mukambi Lodge, through the National Park. To access the Camp, you will have to walk the last 100m on foot, crossing over a foot bridge to bypass a permanent water body. Four well appointed luxury safari tents are nestled into the palm trees on the island and all face out onto the floodplain where Red Lechwe antelope can be seen from your tent.
The Mukambi Plains Camp offers the perfect balance between relaxation and excitement, and the staff are all on-site to make your stay as welcoming and enjoyable as possible. This is a true release from the ‘hustle-and-bustle’ of everyday life, and The Plains Camp allows you to thrive in the absence of civilisation in a way that can’t be experienced anywhere else in the world.
