  • Area : Barotseland
  • Tour Duration : 7 Days
  • We offer : Accommodation, Activities

This tour is five nights, giving you four full-days of serious fishing in some of the best ‘tiger country’ on the planet. The take of a tiger is nothing short of explosive, and, when hooked, they are cunning, dogged, acrobatic fighters that frequently leave fishermen with a snapped line and trembling knees.

Spend the next 5 nights enjoying one of the most pristine fresh water fisheries in Africa.  Fishing is the primary activity in this remote destination, and the waters hold good stocks of tigerfish, nembwe, three-spot, pink bream, and many other species.

Located in Western Zambia, Barotseland is one of the largest flood plains on the Zambezi river system. During the rainy season, the Zambezi breaks its banks and forms a significantly large floodplain which provides a thriving ecosystem for all aquatic life to survive. The area has also come to be known as “Tiger Country”, as tigerfish weighing well-over 20 pounds are regularly caught here.

-What to Expect

  • 6 nights’ accommodation in one of Zambia’s premier safari destinations
  • Fishing in one of the most pristine, fresh-water fisheries in Africa
  • Good stocks of tigerfish, nembwe, three-spot, pink bream, and many other species
  • Private fishing boats with personal skippers

Day 1-6: Matoya Lodge, Zambia

You will meet up with the rest of your tour group at Lanseria International Airport in Johannesburg to fly to Livingstone International Airport in Zambia. You will then board your charter flight and fly directly to Lukulu Airstrip in Western Zambia. The flight from Livingstone to Lukulu is extremely scenic as you fly along the Zambezi River and over the Barotse flood plains.

The team from Matoya Lodge will be waiting to collect you and transfer you to your awaiting fishing boats on the Zambezi. After a quick 20-minute boat trip to Matoyal Lodge, you will check-in and settle into your rooms, and prepare for your early morning departure by getting your rods and reels prepared for one of the most pristine, fresh-water fisheries in Africa.

Many record-size fish have been caught in this area, and the waters hold good stocks of tigerfish, nembwe, three-spot, pink bream, and many other species. The Bird life is also something to behold, and can be enjoyed close-up whilst on the river fishing, or by walking along the river banks and flood plains.

Meals: Full board, including bottled water

On your final day you will have an early breakfast, pack-up and transfer to the airstrip for your return flight back to Lanseria Airport, stopping over in Livingstone to clear customs out of Zambia.
