REBRANDING COMPETITION

THE CHALLENGE

A new brand for marketing
Zambia as a tourism destination.
 

There has been an amazing response to this competition and both the Zambia Tourism Board and the Tourism Council of Zambia send a huge thank you to all who put their talents forward.

After 3,981 emails from 2,017 different people produced 4,445 slogans and 956 different images from 45 countries….the Zambian Tourism Team, with the help of a number of marketing professionals, chose the shortlist of 5 slogans and 5 logos.  Over the last week the judges from around the world and of course from within Zambia have voted and two clear winners have been chosen.

Congratulations to Kelly and Michel who both win a two week holiday to Zambia’s amazing wildlife parks and of course the Victoria Falls.

We thank all the creative minds that sent in their ideas and read with interest all the comments on facebook pages.

There has been a facebook vote over the last week and the most popular slogan was "Lets Explore"  followed by "Discover Zambia, Experience Africa" The most popular logo, interestingly, was the same logo by Michel Scarantino

The winning entries were decided by a panel of distinguished judges that include: A cross section of Zambian professionals from the Zambian Government, Zambia’s tourism sector and the Zambian business and arts sectors. 

  • William Boyd British award winning writer

  • Zolani Mahola – lead singer of the hot South Africa band Freshly Ground

  • Corne Krige – a Zambian, captained the South African ruby team at the World Cup

  • David Shepherd – painter and conservationist, and a true friend of Zambia

  • Jack Hanna – TV presenter, a director of Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

  • Geoff Kent – founder of Abercrombie and Kent

  • Chris McIntyre – author of Bradt’s travel guide to Zambia and director of Expert Africa

  • Keith Bellows – Vice President, National Geographic Society, Editor in Chief, National Geographic Traveler Magazine

  • Dee Blackie – founder of The Business of Brands Institute

  • Tom Buncle - Managing Director of Yellow Railroad, an international destination consultancy

  • Mr. Enzio Rossi - Chairman, Garden Group of Hotels, Zambia

  • Mr. Lawrence Sikutwa - Chairman, LSA Associates, Zambia

  • Mr. Robinson Msitala  - Managing Director, National Airports Corporation, Zambia

 

THE REWARD

One prize was awarded for the best slogan and the other for the best logo. Each prize is a lavish 15 day Zambian safari for two that includes:

  • A visit to the mighty Victoria Falls

  • An authentic safari experience at three top wildlife parks

  • Accommodation, food & beverages, activities and government taxes

  • International flights from listed travel hubs

  • Domestic travel and transport

  • Activity options may include – safari drives, walking safaris with expert guides, canoeing on the Zambezi, walking with elephants or lions, white water rafting, fishing the Zambezi for the fighting tiger fish, bungee jumping, cultural shows, village visits and much more.

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • This competition was open to individuals aged 18 or over, from any country in the world.
     

  • Staff and consultants of the Zambia Tourism Board, the Tourism Council of Zambia, the World Bank Group, the Department for International Development and their immediate families, were not eligible to enter.
     

  • Winners agree to relinquish all copyright to the Zambia Tourism Board.
     

  • Prize conditions:
    - Prizes to be taken prior to July 2012 (excluding the following periods 
      August, September, Christmas week 2011)
    - Prizes are non transferable
    - International flights will be included from the following hubs:
      any EU capital, New York, Washington DC, Dubai, Johannesburg,
      Cairo, Nairobi.
     

  • It is not guaranteed that the winning slogan/logo will be used for Zambia’s tourism marketing.
     

  • If more than one person has sent in the winning idea then the entry that was first received will win the prize.
